A Family Tradition with a Heartwarming Cause
The holiday light display at the Bedwell family home has become a highlight in Fort Wayne’s “Most Dazzling Holiday Light Displays,” drawing visitors from all over the area. For the Bedwells, creating this festive spectacle is about more than just decorating—it’s about giving back.
Leia and Mike Bedwell begin preparing their extravagant light display in the summer, starting with their annual Halloween decorations before quickly transitioning to their holiday lights. For them, the display is an opportunity to share the magic of the season and to create lasting memories for others.
“As children, growing up here in Fort Wayne, childhood memories of going to look at Christmas lights,” said Leia Bedwell. The couple’s decision to share this joy with the community was inspired by those fond childhood experiences.
Lights with a Purpose
While the lights have long been a festive fixture in the community, this year’s display holds an extra special purpose. The Bedwell family is using the lights to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, aiming to grant wishes for children facing critical illnesses.
“That’s just the topper on the cake,” Leia explained, highlighting the deeper meaning behind their annual tradition. The family’s efforts are helping to make a difference in the lives of children in need, and the donations they’ve received are going toward a cause they care deeply about.
Interactive and Magical Experience
The Bedwells are known for making their light display an interactive experience for all who visit. When you pull into their driveway, you can sync your car’s radio to the light show, which plays festive music that perfectly complements the dazzling array of lights. For the Bedwell family, it’s all about creating memorable experiences for their neighbors and visitors alike.
“We hear the little kids inside, chuckling and screaming out in the driveway,” said Leia. “People come up to us year-round and thank us for being a part of their Christmas tradition.”
