Science Central Hosts ‘Countdown to Noon’ for a Kid-Friendly New Year’s Eve
Balloons, Cheers, and Inclusive Celebrations
At precisely noon, 2,025 colorful balloons cascaded from the ceiling, met with delighted cheers and the sound of excited popping.
For families with sensory-sensitive children, a quieter countdown took place in the “Science on a Sphere” room. This thoughtful accommodation ensured that everyone could join the celebration in a way that suited their comfort.
The event’s success highlighted Science Central’s dedication to creating inclusive and engaging experiences for all.
A Milestone Year for Science Central
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Science Central, a milestone that interim Executive Director Larry Kay reflected on with pride.
“It’s been a fantastic year,” Kay shared, noting several major accomplishments:
- A new slide exhibit, quickly becoming a favorite among kids.
- Updates and replacements for existing exhibits to keep the museum fresh and engaging.
- Progress on a planetarium, expected to open by the end of March 2025.
These achievements underscore the organization’s commitment to fostering curiosity and learning through interactive science.
What’s Ahead in 2025?
Looking forward, Science Central has an exciting lineup of family-friendly events planned for the new year. One particularly anticipated addition is a mini-golf exhibit inside the museum. Kay hinted that it would blend fun with a touch of science, staying true to their educational mission.
Additional returning events and new programming promise to keep Science Central a cornerstone of Fort Wayne’s community and a hub for hands-on learning.
