October Prime Day Splits Headphones Into Bargain and Full Price
October Prime Day headphone deals clear last-gen Beats and Sony XM5, leave XM6 near list, and drop AirPods Pro 3 to $179.
October Prime Day headphone deals cut last-gen over-ears by as much as 66% while Sony’s WH-1000XM6 still cost $378. Beats Studio Pro are $119 at Walmart, and AirPods Pro 3 are $179, which is $70 under the $249 list.
The 48-hour Amazon sale ends at 11:59 p.m. PDT on October 7. Current over-ear flagships from Sony, Bose, and Apple barely moved. Last year’s cans and the mid-tier buds took the hit.
Last Year’s Flagships Hit the Floor
Sony’s WH-1000XM5, the previous over-ear flagship, is $198 against a $400 list, a 51% cut. That is $202 off, and it is the pair that looks like a clearance sticker rather than a seasonal promo.
AirPods 4 are $79 at Walmart, down from $129. Nothing Ear 3A earbuds are $79 from $99. JLab Go Air Pop buds are $20 from $29 at Walmart, with eight hours in the buds and 32 hours with the case, plus a USB-A plug built into the case so the cable is not a separate errand.
Those prices sit next to current over-ears that still ask $369 to $429. The pattern is simple. If the model year rolled over, the discount showed up. If it did not, the tag mostly held.
The XM6 Cut Leaves $378 on the Tag
Sony’s WH-1000XM6 is $378 from $458, which is 17% off and $80. Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones (second-gen) are $369 from $449, an 18% cut. Apple’s AirPods Max (second-gen) are $429 from $549, or 22% off.
Bose QuietComfort Headphones Gen 2 are $319 from $359, only 11% off. SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Omni gaming cans are $345 from $400, a 14% trim that barely registers next to the XM5 crash.
THE TWO-SPEED OVER-EAR SALE
| Model | List | Sale | Off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beats Studio Pro | $350 | $119 | 66% |
| Sony WH-1000XM5 | $400 | $198 | 51% |
| Nothing Headphone 1 | $299 | $189 | 37% |
| AirPods Max (2nd gen) | $549 | $429 | 22% |
| Bose QC Ultra (2nd gen) | $449 | $369 | 18% |
| Sony WH-1000XM6 | $458 | $378 | 17% |
Read down the Off column and the split is the whole sale. Last-gen Sony and Beats fall off a cliff. This year’s Sony, Bose, and Apple over-ears stay in a tight 17% to 22% band. XM6 still costs $180 more than XM5 at these prices.
Nothing Cleared Headphone 1 After the Pro
Nothing launched Headphone 1 in July 2025 at $299, with a transparent cup, adaptive ANC, spatial audio with head tracking, and a paddle for playback. On September 29 it put Headphone (1) Pro on sale at $399, with a triple-driver setup, up to 46 dB of ANC, and tuning credited to Metropolis Studios.
Seven days later, Amazon has the original Headphone 1 at $189, 37% off and $110 under list. Nothing’s own Headphone (1) page still shows $299 as the reference price, with the live cart at $199, so the dump is not only Amazon’s.
HOW NOTHING RESET ITS OWN PRICE
- July 2025: Headphone 1 launches in the U.S. at $299 as Nothing’s first over-ear pair.
- September 29, 2026: Headphone (1) Pro goes on sale at $399 on Nothing’s site, Amazon, and Best Buy.
- October 6, 2026: Amazon lists Headphone 1 at $189 during Prime Big Deal Days.
That is a $210 gap between the new Pro and the pair on sale. Ear 3 buds are $99 from $149, a 34% cut, so the brand is moving both cups and buds at once while the Pro tries to sit with Sony and Bose.
$119 Beats Versus a $429 AirPods Max
Beats Studio Pro, an Apple-owned over-ear with ANC, transparency, USB-C lossless, and working iOS and Android support, is $119 against a $350 list. That 66% cut, $231 off, is at Walmart, not behind a Prime badge.
AirPods Max (second-gen) are $429 in the same window, $310 more than those Beats, after a $120 trim from $549. Max still carries the H2 features and the aluminum build. Studio Pro still has the longer stated battery life and a 3.5 mm jack that Max does not pretend to love.
For anyone who wanted Apple-family over-ears without paying Max money, this is the number that matters. The $119 Beats Studio Pro Walmart Prime Big Deal Days tag also tells you Amazon is not the only floor this week.
Where Anker and Nothing Steal the Middle
Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro, Anker’s May buds with a screen on the case and the strongest call quality in one recent test set, are $136 from $170, a 20% cut. Pixel Buds Pro 2 are $179 from $229. Sony WF-1000XM6 buds are $258 from $330, 22% off, which still leaves them $122 above Liberty 5 Pro.
Amazon’s own deal desk is pushing up to 28% off AirPods Pro 3, which matches the $179 / $249 math. That is the one current flagship that behaves like a sale item instead of a placeholder markdown.
WHO THE CUTS ACTUALLY FAVOR
- iPhone owners: AirPods Pro 3 at $179, $70 off, keep the H2 features and the new heart rate sensor.
- Android callers: Liberty 5 Pro at $136 undercuts Sony’s $258 WF-1000XM6 by $122 and adds LDAC plus a case screen.
- Athletes: Powerbeats Pro 2 at $180 from $279 (35% off) with ANC, IPX4, and heart rate; Powerbeats Fit at $160 from $200, with a wing tip Beats says is 20% more flexible.
- Open-ear runners: Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 at $120 from $180, USB-C in place of the old proprietary charger.
- Side sleepers: Ozlo Sleepbuds 2 at $237 from $279 at Best Buy, with a private alarm and 14 hours of battery.
Futuresource Consulting has been pointing at Anker, Nothing, and Realme as the names that still grow volume without racing to zero. This sale is that thesis on a price tag. The $100 to $250 band is where the useful cuts live, and the $370-plus over-ears are where the brands keep margin.
Prime’s Gate and Walmart’s Open Lane
Amazon frames Prime Big Deal Days as a 48-hour event from October 6 at 12:01 a.m. PDT through 11:59 p.m. PDT on October 7, across more than 35 categories, in 22 countries. Member prices sit behind Prime. New drops land at midnight, 8 a.m., and 1 p.m. PDT.
Carmen Nestares, vice president of North America Marketing and Prime Tech, said the event is built for hosting, decorating, and holiday gifting in one window. Headphones are in that electronics bucket, but they are not the poster. LEGO, UGG, and La Roche-Posay got the keynote mentions.
THE PRICE OF THE GATE
- Standard Prime: $14.99 a month or $139 a year, with a 30-day trial if you qualify.
- Young adults, 18 to 24: six months at $0, then $7.49 a month or $69 a year, plus 5% back on some electronics during the event.
- Prime Access: $6.99 a month after a 30-day trial for qualifying assistance and income-verified shoppers.
Walmart does not ask for that badge. Beats Studio Pro at $119, AirPods 4 at $79, and JLab at $20 are all Walmart prices in this roundup. Ozlo is $237 at Best Buy. Some Amazon listings are open to anyone even while the event itself is sold as members-only. The membership is the toll on Amazon’s exclusive rows, not on every pair in the country.
Heart Rate Is the Feature Flagships Still Sell
Apple still prices AirPods Pro 3 as a $249 product on paper and sells the H2 pitch hard: twice the noise cancellation of AirPods Pro 2, a better seal, and a heart rate sensor for workouts. Official specs put listening at up to 8 hours with ANC on a single charge. At $179 those extras finally sit in the same neighborhood as Pixel Buds Pro 2.
Removes up to 2x more unwanted noise than AirPods Pro 2.
Apple, AirPods Pro 3 product page
Powerbeats Pro 2 also ships heart rate monitoring, now $180. That is the remaining premium argument, because noise cancelling itself is no longer scarce. Axis Intelligence Research, citing Omdia, finds true wireless shipments fell 0.7% to 82.1 million units in 2Q26, the first year-over-year drop since 2Q23. Apple shipped 16.8 million of those, a 20.5% share. Omdia analyst Jack Leathem has described ANC as democratized at sub-$25 price points, which is exactly where JLab now sits.
THE EARBUD MARKET THESE DEALS SIT IN
- Volume: 82.1 million true wireless units in 2Q26, down 0.7% year over year.
- Apple’s slice: 16.8 million units, 20.5% share, still first and barely growing.
- The cheap tier: ANC now shows up under $25, which is why a $378 over-ear has to sell comfort, brand, and sensors, not the ANC badge alone.
The $179 AirPods Pro 3 price was still on Amazon listings on October 7, so the cut held into the second day. Late November can still go lower, and last-gen Sony already did. The event itself ends at 11:59 p.m. PDT on October 7, after which those member rows come down and the leftover pairs, XM5, Headphone 1, Studio Pro, stay as the ones that actually moved.
