CD Projekt Red Exports Geralt but Bars Guest Heroes

Miles Tost said Witcher 3 Remastered will not get Diablo cosmetics, because CD Projekt Red still refuses storefront-exclusive in-game content.

CD Projekt Red will not put Diablo outfits in The Witcher 3 Remastered, level design lead Miles Tost said at BlizzCon 2026. A Geralt-inspired Barbarian skin is still heading to Diablo 4, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners outfits are due in Overwatch in 2027. The traffic only runs one way.

Tost’s reason is older than this partnership. If you buy a CD Projekt Red game, you get the full version, no matter which store sold it. That rule now makes Witcher 3 Remastered the quiet room in a year when Geralt is being dressed for other people’s launchers.

Why Witcher 3 Remastered Ships Without Diablo Cosmetics

Asked at BlizzCon whether the studio had looked at Diablo-themed content inside The Witcher, Tost said, “we haven’t really thought about this yet.” The gap is policy, not a missing art pass. CD Projekt Red has long preferred physical extras when a platform partner wants something of its own, rather than an armor set that exists on one storefront and not the rest.

One thing we really value is to not have content that is purely exclusive depending on where you buy. Usually, when we need to do something exclusive for [partners], what we’ve done in the past are things like an exclusive physical hoodie. I can recall we did this for Xbox. Xbox pre-orders for The Witcher 3 got an exclusive set of cards. For us, it’s really important to preserve that, if you buy the game and play it, you always get the full version of it.

The studio is fine with a Geralt skin in Diablo 4 living behind a Battle.net purchase. It will not lock a Diablo sword, shield, or dye to Battle.net inside Witcher 3 Remastered, which is also going up on Steam, GOG, Epic, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2. Tost did not close the idea forever. He said CD Projekt Red is “always sort of open-minded with figuring out cool ways to collaborate,” and that the studio will listen to how the BlizzCon news lands.

That still leaves the remaster, which Witcher 3 Remastered on Battle.net shares a street date with every other version, shipping on September 29, 2026 as a free upgrade for owners on qualifying platforms. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine were already made free for current owners on August 25, 2026. None of that package includes a guest from Sanctuary.

Geralt Already Walks Sanctuary as a Barbarian

The outbound side is not a teaser. It is a calendar. Amelia Korzycka, CD Projekt Red’s expert community and social media manager, wrote that a Geralt-themed skin for Diablo IV is part of a partnership she called “just the beginning.” Blizzard’s own post said the skin is how it is “bringing a slice of The Continent to Sanctuary.”

Geralt the character is not dropping into Sanctuary as a hero. Tost said the work landed on a Barbarian cosmetic after a lot of back and forth, because the class is built on weapons skill, training, and little magic. The armor, he said, is “heavily inspired by Geralt’s iconic Kaer Morhen armor,” with “a bit of Barbarian sprinkled on top” in the fur, so the look “feels right at home in Sanctuary.”

CD Projekt Red said this skin is the first piece of Witcher-inspired content coming to Diablo 4, with more planned for 2027. Overwatch is getting crews from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 in 2027. Fortnite already sold Geralt in 2023, then Ciri and Yennefer that June, then Johnny Silverhand and V in December 2024. Night City keeps leaving home. White Orchard does not take visitors.

What Does Songs of the Past Unlock in Diablo 4?

The Barbarian skin is not a BlizzCon attendee code and not a random shop drop. Korzycka wrote that it becomes available when pre-purchase opens for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Songs of the Past on Battle.net, for anyone who buys the expansion there, including people who wait until the 2027 launch. Players who buy Songs of the Past on another store do not get that Diablo 4 reward on the terms CD Projekt Red posted.

WHERE GERALT GOES NEXT

Host game CD Projekt Red content Window How it unlocks
Diablo 4 Geralt-inspired Barbarian skin Tied to Songs of the Past Buy the expansion on Battle.net
Diablo 4 Further Witcher-inspired content 2027 Not yet detailed
Overwatch Edgerunners and Edgerunners 2 outfits 2027 Not yet detailed
Fortnite Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, then Cyberpunk skins 2023 to 2024 Battle pass and item shop
Witcher 3 Remastered No inbound collab cosmetics September 29, 2026 Same full game on every storefront

Songs of the Past itself is the other half of the 2027 plan. Korzycka wrote that Geralt goes to Letten, “an idyllic land of rural tradition and folklore that hides a dark secret just below the surface.” Blizzard’s post added that the land’s fate, and Geralt’s closest friendship, are on the line. That is new Witcher work. It is not a Diablo dungeon sewn into Toussaint.

The Full-Game Promise Dates to 2014

Tost’s cards line is not a fuzzy memory. On August 15, 2014, CD Projekt Red announced Gwent as an in-game mode on every platform, then added two physical Gwent decks and a cloth map only to the Xbox One Collector’s Edition. Marcin Iwiński, then co-founder and joint CEO, had to come back the same day because players treated those extras as a broken vow.

The in-game mode, he wrote, stayed free everywhere. The physical decks were how the studio paid a partner without splitting the software. “We promised not have any exclusive DLCs, neither per platform nor per retailer, and we do stand by our promise,” Iwiński wrote. “Nothing has changed, nor will change in this regard.” He added that CD Projekt Red still needed partners to make the game visible, and that comic books, posters, steel books, and medallions were already going to retailers without the same fight.

THE NO-EXCLUSIVE-DLC CLOCK

  1. 1998: CD Projekt distributes Blizzard games in Poland, including StarCraft, a history Global PR Director Radek Grabowski retold on the studio blog.
  2. August 15, 2014: In-game Gwent ships on every platform; two physical decks and a cloth map stay on the Xbox One Collector’s Edition after Iwiński restates the no-exclusive-DLC vow.
  3. August 25, 2026: Remastered, Songs of the Past, and the Diablo 4 skin are announced together; Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine become free for current Witcher 3 owners.
  4. BlizzCon 2026: Tost shows the Kaer Morhen-inspired Barbarian and says inbound Diablo content in Witcher games has not been thought through.
  5. September 29, 2026: Witcher 3 Remastered launches on Battle.net the same day as other platforms, still without guest cosmetics.
  6. 2027: Songs of the Past, more Witcher-inspired Diablo 4 content, and Overwatch Edgerunners outfits are due.

That is 12 years of the same bargain. Partners get a hoodie, a map, a deck of cards, or, now, a skin in someone else’s client. Buyers of The Witcher keep one build. Grabowski’s 1998 story makes the new deal feel circular, 28 years after those StarCraft shirts in Warsaw. The content still does not travel in both directions.

The Exclusive Lives in Diablo 4

The twist is not that CD Projekt Red hates exclusives. It is that it moved them next door. A Geralt Barbarian that only Battle.net customers can claim is still exclusive content. It just does not sit in the Witcher 3 save file, so Tost can say every Witcher buyer still got the full game.

That split is the one players actually bump into. Anyone who owns Witcher 3 on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, Steam, or GOG can download Remastered and, in 2027, Songs of the Past. They will not be on the posted path to the Diablo 4 skin unless they also buy the expansion on Battle.net. CD Projekt Red will not fracture Geralt’s own wardrobe by store. It will fracture the crossover reward by store, because the reward lives in Blizzard’s RPG.

WHAT CAN BE LOCKED, AND WHAT CANNOT

  • Inside Witcher 3: No platform or retailer DLC, no store-only armor, no Diablo guest set on Battle.net.
  • Beside Witcher 3: A Geralt Barbarian in Diablo 4, granted for a Battle.net copy of Songs of the Past.
  • On a shelf: Physical Gwent decks, a cloth map, and the kind of hoodie Tost recalled doing for Xbox.
  • In 2028: A Witcher 4 box with collectibles, even if there is no disc in it.

Xbox’s own recent extra fits the same habit. In September 2026, CD Projekt Red said the remaster will make The Witcher 3 an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so a digital Xbox copy also unlocks the PC version on the Microsoft Store, with shared saves. That is another way of saying the license should follow the player. It is not a Tyrael cloak in Kaer Morhen.

Witcher 4 Still Gets a Box of Feelies

Tost’s physical-bonus line matches what joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said about The Witcher 4, which the studio is aiming at 2028. Sony has said it will stop making new PlayStation game discs in January 2028. Nowakowski said CD Projekt Red cannot order those factories around.

We’re big fans of people having access to tangible collectible things. We’re nerds ourselves, and we like that. We always supported that. So, whatever is the case, we’re going to be for sure having a box. We’re going to have a box that’s going to have some feelies in it. Something you’re going to be wanting to open up and enjoy.

Michał Nowakowski, joint CEO

If PlayStation’s plants stop, he said, Witcher 4 “won’t have a disc.” The box still happens. That is the 2014 Xbox Collector’s Edition logic under a harsher hardware rule: when the software cannot be unique, the object in your hands can. It also hints at how an inbound collab would have to be built, if Tost’s team ever does think about it. A Diablo statue in the crate is easy. A Diablo quest that only exists on Battle.net is the thing they have spent 12 years refusing to ship.

Inbound Collabs Depend on BlizzCon Feedback

Launch-week chatter around Remastered is about replaying Geralt before Letten, and about whether the free upgrade is sitting in the right store library. It is not a campaign for guest heroes in Velen. The inbound question came from the press row at BlizzCon, after the outbound skins had already been put on a slide.

WHAT WE KNOW

  • The remaster date: Witcher 3 Remastered launches September 29, 2026 on Battle.net and the other announced platforms, as a free upgrade for qualifying owners.
  • The outbound slate: A Geralt Barbarian in Diablo 4 for Battle.net buyers of Songs of the Past, more Witcher-inspired Diablo 4 content in 2027, and Overwatch Edgerunners outfits in 2027.
  • The inbound slate: None announced for Witcher 3 Remastered, Songs of the Past, or Cyberpunk 2077.

WHAT IS UNCONFIRMED

  • A reverse collab: Tost said the studio had not really thought about Diablo-themed content in The Witcher, and that feedback could change minds.
  • The rest of 2027 in Diablo 4: CD Projekt Red has not said whether extra Witcher-inspired content will also sit behind a Battle.net purchase.
  • A Witcher 4 disc: Nowakowski said that depends on first-party factories, not on CD Projekt Red.

Tost’s last word was not a ban. “It’s not that we are of a mindset where we’ll do one thing and then never do another,” he said. “Honestly, we’ll listen to what feedback we’ll get from these [BlizzCon announcements], how the responses are, and then we’ll see about this with an open mind.” Until that feedback turns into a patch, Witcher 3 Remastered still launches on September 29, 2026 as the same Geralt on every storefront, while the first Witcher-inspired Diablo 4 skin waits on a Battle.net copy of Songs of the Past.
