Amazon Opens 50,000 Brands to Creators and Keeps Checkout

Amazon’s Creator Connections lets 50,000 sellers buy clicks from 5,000 Indian creators, a two-sided ads desk timed for the Great Indian Festival.

Amazon opened Creator Connections in India on September 8, matching 5,000 creators with 50,000 brands on a cost-per-click and affiliate pay mix. India is the first market outside the United States to get the product.

The content can live on Instagram or YouTube. The order is still meant to close on Amazon.in.

Amazon Built This Desk for Brands on Its Own Shelves

Nidhi Thakkar, Head of Social Commerce for Emerging Countries at Amazon, called the design “a truly e-commerce player first model where there are both of these two-sided marketplaces.” Brands get creator posts off Amazon. The purchase, if it happens, is supposed to happen on Amazon, where the company can see the click and the basket.

That is a different job from a talent agency. A fashion creator is shown fashion and beauty campaigns. A parenting creator is shown the products that cohort already moves. Brands put up a budget. Creators pick campaigns inside Amazon’s own dashboard instead of waiting for an agent to forward a brief.

Thakkar said Amazon will still use agencies for enablement, recruitment and account management. The matching of a mid-size seller to a mid-size creator is the piece Amazon wants to pull in-house. MakeMyTrip and Cleartrip spent 2026 standing up their own creator pay tools around bookings. Amazon is doing the same thing around SKUs it already lists.

Amazon says creator-led discovery has contributed to the sale of more than 6 crore products on Amazon.in this year, and that nearly 70 percent of creator-led purchases now come from non-metro cities. The company already has the demand. Creator Connections is how 50,000 advertisers buy a slice of the talk that sits in front of it.

How Creators Get Paid for Clicks as Well as Sales

Until this launch, Amazon India’s main creator cheque was an affiliate commission on a qualifying purchase. That is last-click money. If a shopper watches three reviews and buys through a fourth link, the first three earn nothing.

Creator Connections adds a cost-per-click layer on top of that commission. Thakkar said the CPC figure is meant to count qualified clicks and the sales that follow, so a creator can be paid for product discovery even when the cookie never converts on their URL. Affiliate commissions still run on the sale.

In the United States, where the same product name has been live for brands inside Seller Central, Amazon’s help pages tell advertisers they can set the commission rate and campaign budget, pick a start and end date, and pay only when a customer orders their SKU. Those charges land on the Amazon Advertising invoice under Sponsored Ads and are billed every 30 days. India’s version is the first copy of that desk outside the US, with the CPC layer bolted on so consideration has a price of its own.

HOW A CREATOR CONNECTIONS RUPEE MOVES

  • Brand side: A seller on Amazon sets a campaign, a budget and the products it wants talked about, then waits for matching creators to opt in.
  • Creator side: An invited creator opens the Amazon dashboard, browses campaigns that fit the channel, and posts with the affiliate link the programme already uses.
  • Click pay: A qualified click can trigger the new cost-per-click earning, whether or not the session ends in a sale.
  • Sale pay: If the shopper buys, the older affiliate commission still pays on that order, so one post can earn twice.
  • Amazon’s cut of the picture: The content may run on Instagram or YouTube, but the click path is built so the basket closes on Amazon.in.

Thakkar said affiliate-first and mid-sized creators will be the earliest users, because they already know how to turn a post into a product page. Large creators, she said, already stack sponsorships, brand deals and side businesses. “Creators who are already affiliate-first are likely to see the greatest value,” she said.

Five Thousand Creators Meet Fifty Thousand Brand Campaigns

Amazon’s Influencer Program already counts more than 1.65 lakh creators. Creator Connections opens with 5,000 of them, which is 3 percent of that pool, against 50,000 brands. That is 10 brand campaigns for every invited creator.

Thakkar called it a phase rollout. “We learn, we learn,” she said. Amazon has not published a rupee target for creator earnings or for brand return from the new desk. The first question the company will answer for itself is whether those 50,000 advertisers like the return they see, and whether the 5,000 creators stay in the dashboard once festive traffic hits.

AMAZON INDIA CREATOR PAY ROUTES

Programme Who it is for now How the money arrives
Influencer Program More than 1.65 lakh approved creators Commission on qualifying purchases through storefronts and links
Creator Connections 5,000 creators and 50,000 brands at launch Cost-per-click on qualified clicks, plus the same affiliate commission
Amazon Live Creators hosting live sessions on Amazon.in Live shopping, timed deals, and commissions on what the room buys

The rest of the stack is already built. In November 2024 Amazon put Creator Central as a one-stop hub on the app, starting with more than 50,000 people. Creator University trains the same cohort. In-person Creator Connect events sit around sale periods. The new product is not a community. It is a campaign marketplace sitting on top of tools Amazon has been stacking since the Influencer Program took root in India.

WHAT WE KNOW

  • Launch scale: 50,000 brands and 5,000 creators on September 8, with a later pass through the 1.65 lakh Influencer Program base.
  • Pay mix: Cost-per-click on qualified engagement, with affiliate commissions still paying on the sale.
  • Market first: India is the first country outside the United States to get Creator Connections.
  • Festive clock: Amazon says creator earnings on the platform have historically risen fivefold at Diwali against ordinary months.

WHAT IS UNCONFIRMED

  • The CPC rate: Amazon has not published what a qualified click is worth, or whether that rate will move in the sale.
  • Brand names: The 50,000 advertisers have not been listed, so it is not clear how many are household labels versus long-tail sellers.
  • Who is in the 5,000: Amazon says it is starting with its most engaged creators, without a public follower cutoff for this product.
  • Festive lift: The company has not said how much extra creator pay or extra brand sales it expects from this desk in the Great Indian Festival.

US Amazon influencers posted in August that Creator Connections and related earnings-per-click payouts had fallen 75 to 90 percent on traffic that had not changed. That is a United States complaint, not an India result. It is a reminder that a dashboard rate Amazon can edit is not a signed brand deal.

Last-Click Left the Rest of the Funnel Unpaid

Thakkar made the argument for this product in July, before it had an India name. She said Amazon no longer treats creators as a marketing channel. “We don’t think of creators only as a marketing channel anymore, but as a business channel,” she said. The sticking point was measurement.

I may have watched three amazing creators talking about this product. I’ve seen the swatches, I’ve seen the results. On the fourth creator I click and make the purchase. The attribution goes to the fourth creator even though the others contributed to the purchase decision.

Nidhi Thakkar, Head of Social Commerce, Emerging Countries, Amazon

A CPC cheque is Amazon’s answer to that fourth-click problem, paid by the brand that wants the consideration. Commissions on the Influencer Program stay the same for a nano creator and a celebrity, Thakkar said in July, with extra rewards based on past performance rather than a one-off deal. “You don’t even need 2,000 followers. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can register in a few minutes,” she said of the base programme.

That low floor is why the 5,000-person invite still matters. Anyone can join the affiliate layer. The new brand budget sits behind a smaller door. Beauty, parenting, technology, home improvement and fitness are the categories Thakkar flagged as already showing strong use, because a trusted niche voice there moves a cart more cleanly than a celebrity spot.

“If you want to truly tap into social commerce you have to tap at the large base that is sitting which individually may be small but as a cohorted strategy it’s very large,” she said. The cohort is the point. Amazon would rather have hundreds of regional tech reviewers than one national face, as long as the links resolve on its domain.

What India’s 4.12 Million Creators Take Home

The pay problem Creator Connections says it will ease is not a secret. A 2025 count by the Indian School of Business and HashFame put India’s creator base at 4.12 million, up from 0.96 million in 2020, more than fourfold in five years. Non-metro creators are 66 percent of that total. 85 percent of those non-metro creators did not land a single paid brand campaign in a year.

A YEAR OF BRAND DEALS AGAINST A CITY WAGE

Creator type Paid campaigns in a year Share of the Rs 24,434 urban salaried wage
Nano creator, non-metro Two campaigns About 20 percent
Micro creator Five campaigns About a full urban wage
85 percent of non-metro creators Zero campaigns No campaign pay

ISB and HashFame also found that brand campaigns themselves tripled, from about 14,000 in 2020 to 42,000 in 2025, so the work is there. It is not reaching the long tail. A separate Kofluence survey in 2026 found that 50.4 percent of creators named scarce brand collaborations as their main block, ahead of shaky income and haggling over rates.

Amazon’s own geography already leans the same way. More than two-thirds of its creators sit in over 500 non-metro pin codes, with purchase examples the company has named including Karnal, Bhubaneswar, Vijayawada and Dehradun. In 2025, Amazon said, creator programmes drove discovery for over 2 crore shoppers, and over 40 lakh customers found products through creators in that festive season alone. The people doing the recommending are not, as a group, the people cashing the celebrity invoices.

A CPC stream that pays on a click is useful to a creator who cannot get a retainer. It is still a performance wage. It rises when Amazon’s sale is on and it falls when the brand turns the campaign off. It does not, on its own, turn the 85 percent with zero brand deals into a salaried class.

Diwali Usually Multiplies Amazon Creator Pay by Five

Thakkar said creator earnings on Amazon have historically increased fivefold during Diwali against business-as-usual months. Amazon is putting Creator Connections in the market ahead of the Great Indian Festival so it can watch both sides of the desk when traffic is at its loudest. Beauty and lifestyle creator Scherezade Shroff, one of the names Amazon put on the launch, called that timing “incredible for creators who do a lot of organic content.”

“It enables creators like us to earn from sales driven by our content and we get to talk about products that we genuinely love,” Shroff said. She is not the mid-tier affiliate Thakkar described as the core user. She is the kind of voice brands already know how to hire. The test is whether a parenting creator in a non-metro pin code, posting in the language the buyer actually uses, can open the same campaign list and get paid when the click does not convert.

THE STACK AMAZON IS STRESS-TESTING THIS FESTIVE SEASON

  1. November 6, 2024: Amazon launches Creator Central in India and begins rolling it out to more than 50,000 creators on the app.
  2. 2025 festive season: The Influencer Program grows from 1 lakh creators to 1.25 lakh, a 25 percent rise, and over 40 lakh customers discover products through creators.
  3. March 10, 2026: Amazon says the creator programmes have reached 1.25 lakh people, with 2 crore shoppers in 2025 and 43 million minutes watched on Amazon Live in a 30-day stretch.
  4. July 24, 2026: Thakkar puts the creator count at 1.65 lakh and argues that last-click affiliate math underpays the people who built the purchase.
  5. September 8, 2026: Creator Connections opens with 50,000 brands and 5,000 creators, the first rollout of the product outside the United States.

Zahid Khan, Director of Shopping Experience at Amazon India, said in March that creators are “at the heart of how customers discover, research, and purchase products today.” Creator Connections is the ads product that tries to put a price on the discover-and-research half of that sentence, paid by the 50,000 brands that could not buy a celebrity retainer and would not have been able to find those regional accounts on their own.

The 5,000 creators who got the first login will learn what a qualified click is worth when the festival sale turns on. The other 97 percent of Amazon’s creator base will get in if those 50,000 advertisers like the return. Amazon has not said what happens if they do not.

Numbers get particular attention here. A percentage in a business story is recomputed from the underlying figures before it goes live, a benchmark in a technology or gaming review is quoted with the conditions it was measured under, and a transfer fee or a lap time in the sports and auto pages is traced back to the club, the league or the timing sheet that published it. The same rule covers news, science, entertainment, lifestyle and travel: if a figure cannot be tied to a filing, a dataset, a transcript or a test Harry ran himself, it does not appear.
