The Shark 2 Pro Arrives as Lava’s Storefront Twin

Lava’s Shark 2 Pro 5G is the Virat V1 Pro for stores at ₹16,699, the same Unisoc T8200 phone Flipkart already sells cheaper.

Lava priced the Shark 2 Pro 5G at ₹16,699 on September 29, 2026, as the store version of a phone it already sells on Flipkart. The hardware matches the Virat V1 Pro 5G that went up in late August: same Unisoc board, same 6,000mAh cell, same 6.74-inch 120Hz LCD.

The second name is for shop counters. Flipkart still lists the Virat at ₹15,999, and a ₹2,000 card cut took that twin to ₹13,999 at launch.

Lava Told Stores This Phone Was Coming in August

On August 24, 2026, Lava International Limited announced the Virat V1 Pro 5G as an online-first phone in its Virat line. The same note said the handset would reach Lava’s retail network from September 2026 as the Shark 2 Pro 5G. September 29 is that store SKU getting its own price tag, colours, and shelf talk, not a new board coming out of the factory.

Sumit Singh, SVP and Head of Product at Lava, framed the under-$200 pitch when the Virat name went out. He was describing the device now sitting in shops as the Shark 2 Pro.

Virat V1 Pro 5G is built on extensive research undertaken to identify real gaps in the market and deliver a strong value proposition for our users. The device is engineered for high performance, wrapped in a stylish design and equipped with good storage under the $200 segment.

He also pointed to a disrupted supply chain and uneven pricing, and said the Pro series was aimed at buyers under ₹20,000. That is the band this chassis occupies on both sides of the aisle.

HOW THE SAME PHONE GOT TWO NAMES

  1. August 24, 2026: Lava announces the Virat V1 Pro 5G for Flipkart and says the same phone will reach stores as the Shark 2 Pro.
  2. August 31, 2026: Virat V1 Pro goes on sale at 12 PM IST on Flipkart at ₹15,999, or ₹13,999 with a ₹2,000 card discount.
  3. September 2026: Lava’s retail network is scheduled to take the identical hardware under the Shark 2 Pro name.
  4. September 29, 2026: Shark 2 Pro 5G is priced at ₹16,699 in Akash Blue and Nanda Silver, with store financing on offer.

Gadget feeds on September 29 repeated the spec sheet and the ₹16,699 tag. Almost none repeated Lava’s August sentence that this SKU was already booked as the store twin.

What the Shark 2 Pro 5G Puts on the Counter

The panel is a 6.74-inch IPS LCD at 720 x 1,600 pixels, 120Hz, and 550 nits in high-brightness mode. An 8MP camera sits in a punch-hole for selfies and face unlock. The back holds a single 50MP wide camera that Lava labels an AI camera; extra lens rings on the housing do not add extra sensors.

Inside is a 6nm Unisoc T8200 with two Cortex-A76 cores at 2.3GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.1GHz, plus a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. Lava ships one memory cut, 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, and lets the software add up to 6GB of virtual RAM. The SIM tray is hybrid: two nano-SIMs, or one SIM plus a microSD card up to 1TB.

The cell is a 6,000mAh Li-Po pack with 18W charging through USB-C 2.0. Lava times a 0-100% fill at 2 hours and 40 minutes and puts an 18W charger in the box. A 3.5mm headphone jack remains. The slab is 168.29 x 77.64 x 8.68mm, weighs 207g, and carries an IP64 dust-tight, splash-resistant rating. A side fingerprint reader is quoted at 280ms, and Wi-Fi 5 plus Bluetooth 5.4 handle local radios. Dual 5G SIMs are supported in SA and NSA modes.

Lava calls the software bloat-free and still loads its Vayu AI assistant. That is the store pitch in one tray: a clean Android 16 skin, a jack, a big cell, and a doorstep repair promise rather than a new camera stack.

₹700 More Than the Flipkart Twin

At MRP, the Shark 2 Pro costs ₹700 more than the Virat V1 Pro’s ₹15,999 Flipkart list, about $175 at the rounded dollar figure used for this band. Against the Virat’s ₹13,999 card offer, the store name is ₹2,700 higher. The gap is the point of the second badge. A multi-brand shop cannot hang a Flipkart screenshot on the wall and match that card cut, so Lava gives the retailer a Shark-branded unit, EMI paperwork, and Lava’s home service van.

Coverage on launch day split on where the Shark 2 Pro would sit. Lava’s August text pointed at the retail network. Later notes added partnered service providers and some online listings. The Flipkart page for the Virat V1 Pro is still the cheaper named twin if the buyer is willing to order it.

THE TWO NAMES AND THE CHEAPER SHARK 2

Model Where it is sold Price Memory Rear camera
Shark 2 Pro 5G Lava stores, partners, some online ₹16,699 6GB / 128GB 50MP
Virat V1 Pro 5G Flipkart, Virat series ₹15,999 (₹13,999 with card) 6GB / 128GB 50MP
Shark 2 5G Offline from June 10, 2026 ₹11,999 4GB / 64GB 13MP

The non-Pro Shark 2, announced May 26, 2026, shares the T8200 and the 6,000mAh cell but cuts RAM, storage, and the main camera. It is the cheaper store 5G, not a third name for the Pro board.

The T8200 Chip Now Sits in a Crowd of Lava Phones

Unisoc lists the T8200 as a mid-range 5G platform on TSMC 6nm, with LPDDR4X at 2133MHz, UFS 2.2 or UFS 3.1, 5G dual-carrier aggregation at 130MHz, and a GPU clocked at 850MHz. The chip can drive FHD+ at 120Hz and encode 4K at 30fps. Lava fitted an HD+ panel and capped video at 2K at 30fps on this phone, which is a cost choice on a part that can go higher.

Lava says the board scores more than 500,000 in AnTuTu. Chip databases put a typical T8200 AnTuTu score of 513,416, in line with that claim. Unisoc dated the platform to January 2024. By late September 2026 it is the engine in a pile of sub-₹18,000 5G phones, not a new design win. Product lists treat the T8200 is a renamed Unisoc T765, the same two A76 cores and Mali-G57 MC2 graphics under a later number.

A September 2026 round-up counted 17 T8200 phones in India, from ₹12,499 to ₹17,999. Lava itself has spread the chip across Virat, Shark, and Bold names. For a shopper, the brand on the back changes more often than the silicon inside.

Store rivals in this aisle advertise larger cells and faster bricks. One offline-centric 5G in the same money, the Realme C100x, is sold with an 8,000mAh battery and 45W charging, plus a heavier load of preinstalled apps. Lava’s counter is the cleaner Android 16 build and the home service scheme, not wattage.

Android 16 Stops After One Upgrade

The Shark 2 Pro boots Android 16 and is promised one more OS version, Android 17, then the version train ends. Lava adds two years of security patches. That is a short software life even in this price band, and it is identical to the Virat promise because it is the same build.

Lava’s “bloat-free” line is doing real work against brands that fill the drawer with partner apps. Vayu AI is the exception Lava chose to keep. Dual-View video, night, HDR, portrait, film, Pro, and motion photo modes sit on the 50MP rear camera. Those modes do not turn a single wide sensor into a multi-lens system, and they do not extend the two-year patch clock.

Buyers who want four years of OS support will not find it here. The phone is sold as a daily 5G slab with a jack and a fat battery, then a stop at Android 17.

Free Service at Home Comes With the Box

The people who need the Shark name are the dealer and the walk-in buyer who wants to hold the phone, sign an EMI form, and call a technician to the door. Lava’s Free Service @ Home programme is the extra that Flipkart cannot put in a carton. Warranty terms match the Virat sheet.

WHAT THE STORE UNIT ADDS ON PAPER

  • Handset cover: One-year replacement warranty on the phone.
  • Accessory cover: Six months on the charger and other extras in the box.
  • Doorstep repairs: Free Service @ Home across India instead of a trip to a bench.
  • Store credit: Financing through retail outlets and partnered service providers.
  • Paint names: Akash Blue and Nanda Silver, separate from the Virat colour labels.

That package is why a buyer might pay ₹16,699 in a shop for a chassis Flipkart already priced at ₹15,999. It is also why Lava did not need a new chipset to fill the Shark slot. The August note had already assigned the board a second badge.

The Flipkart twin is still live at ₹15,999. Anyone who can use a card offer still pays ₹13,999 for the same T8200 board, the same 6,000mAh cell, and a different name on the back.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Lava Shark 2 Pro the Same as the Virat V1 Pro?

Lava said in its August 24, 2026 announcement that the Virat V1 Pro 5G would also be sold through its retail network as the Shark 2 Pro 5G, so the boards match. The store unit uses Akash Blue and Nanda Silver, while the Flipkart Virat launched in Sikkim Midnight and Spiti Frost, which is how the two listings stay distinct on a shelf and in a search bar.

How Long Does the Lava Shark 2 Pro Battery Last?

Lava’s own endurance claims for this 6,000mAh chassis are up to 40 hours of talk time, 650 hours of standby, and 760 minutes of YouTube playback, with the 18W brick taking 2 hours and 40 minutes for a full charge from empty.

Does the Shark 2 Pro 5G Include a Charger in the Box?

Yes. Lava lists an 18W charger and a Type-A to Type-C cable with the phone, so the first charge does not depend on a separate brick, even though 18W is slow next to 45W store rivals.

Can the Shark 2 Pro Record Dual-View Video?

Lava’s camera kit on this hardware includes Dual-View video, which records two perspectives at once, plus 2K capture at 30fps on the 50MP rear camera, with night, HDR, portrait, film, Pro, and motion photo modes listed beside it.

What Is the Shark 2 Pro 5G Screen Pixel Density?

The 6.74-inch 720 x 1,600 panel is listed at 260 ppi on a 20:9 aspect ratio, with Lava claiming a 90.40% screen-to-body ratio on a punch-hole LCD that peaks at 550 nits in high-brightness mode.

Walk-in buyers still get a 5G phone with a 6,000mAh cell, a jack, and a technician who will come to the house. Online buyers get the same board for less if they can live with the Virat name.
