Google TV Streamer Jumps to $149.99 for a Two-Year-Old Hub
Google raised the Google TV Streamer to $149.99, turning a two-year-old Chromecast replacement into hub-priced hardware while $60 Google TV boxes remain.
Google now sells the Google TV Streamer for $149.99, $50 above the $99.99 price it launched at in 2024. The new tag is live on Google’s own site and at Best Buy.
The same August 31 notice also raised select Nest cameras and doorbells. Google blamed rising component costs, the same memory squeeze already used by Apple, Amazon, and Roku on living-room boxes.
Google Now Lists the Streamer at $149.99
The Google Store lists the Streamer at $149.99, or $12.50 a month on a 12-month plan. That is a 50% jump on a box that has not been replaced with a new model. A compare module on the same page still shows the old $99.99 figure beside the buy button.
Due to rising component costs, we are adjusting the U.S. pricing of select Google Nest cameras, doorbells and Google TV streamer 4K, effective August 31. We remain committed to providing our customers with industry-leading smart home security and continuous feature updates.
Google spokesperson, statement dated August 31, 2026
Best Buy has already matched the new list price. As of September 1, Amazon and Walmart still showed leftover units near the old $99.99 mark, including porcelain listings at that figure and some hazel units a little above it.
THE NEW US PRICE
- List price: $149.99 on the Google Store and at Best Buy.
- Launch price: $99.99 when the box went on sale on September 24, 2024.
- The jump: $50, or 50 percent, with no new hardware announced.
- Financing: $12.50 a month over 12 months on Google’s site.
That leftover $99 stock is old inventory working through third-party shelves, not Google holding the line. Anyone waiting for the company to blink on its own store is waiting on a price that already moved.
The Box Was Sold as a Smart Home Hub
When Google unveiled the Streamer on August 6, 2024, it did not pitch a cheap dongle. Product manager Christina Cao wrote that the device doubles as a smart home hub for Google Home and Matter gear, and that it replaces Chromecast as a faster, more premium 4K box.
Google TV Streamer has connectivity support for Matter, along with a built-in Thread border router, a technology that allows you to quickly and safely connect smart home devices like locks and motion sensors.

Google designed the box to sit in front of the TV, not tucked behind it, so the Thread radio could reach locks and sensors. It also pushed a home panel on the TV for cameras, lights, and the thermostat. The Streamer was the Chromecast generation’s grown-up, and the cheap HDMI stick left with it.
WHAT THE $99.99 PITCH INCLUDED
- Memory and storage: 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, double the memory Google advertised versus the last Chromecast.
- Video and sound: Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision, plus Dolby Atmos.
- Ports: HDMI 2.1, gigabit Ethernet, and USB-C, with the HDMI cable sold separately.
- Hub radio: Matter support and a built-in Thread border router, plus the Google Home panel on the TV.
Owners who paid $99.99 already argued the interface felt slow. A $149.99 sticker does not add RAM, and it does not make a two-year-old box feel new. People who wanted a Chromecast replacement have had two years to buy one.
Why Google Raised the TV Streamer Price
Google’s notice points at parts, and the parts in this box are memory and storage. The Streamer ships with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Those chips are the same class of parts AI data centers have been absorbing since last year, which is why phones, laptops, and tiny streamers have all moved in the same direction.
TrendForce, in a July 3 note, said DRAM contract prices to rise 13 to 18 percent in the third quarter, with NAND flash up 10 to 15 percent. It also said demand for consumer DRAM used in televisions and set-top boxes remains weak. Google still raised the Streamer. The hike is not a rush of people buying TV boxes. It is the cost of getting chips that data centers now bid up.
Deloitte’s semiconductor team wrote in late July that the memory crunch may last until 2029, because new fab capacity takes years to come online. Vendors have been steering standard DRAM toward high-bandwidth memory and data-center SSDs. A living-room box with 4GB of RAM is not first in that line.
Amazon made the same case in late August, when it lifted Fire TV, Echo, and Kindle prices. Kristy Schmidt, senior communications manager for Amazon Devices & Services, said the industry faced large increases in memory and storage costs and that Amazon had absorbed them as long as it could. Apple, in June, pointed at AI data centers pulling memory and storage. Roku, in July, moved its whole player lineup after an executive cited the same shortage.
THE LIVING-ROOM PRICE RESET
- June 2026: Apple lifts Apple TV 4K to $199 for 64GB and $249 for 128GB, from $129 and $149.
- July 24, 2026: Roku takes the Ultra from $99.99 to $149.99 and the Streaming Stick 4K from $49.99 to $79.99, a 60 percent jump on that stick.
- August 21, 2026: Amazon takes the Fire TV Stick 4K Max from $59.99 to $84.99, more than 40 percent.
- August 31, 2026: Google takes the Streamer from $99.99 to $149.99 and raises select Nest cameras and doorbells on the same notice.
In mid-August, Pixel 11 started at $899, $100 above Pixel 10. The Streamer hike landed 18 days later. Google is not isolating one accessory. It is resetting US tags on hardware that still uses those chips.
Nest Cams and Doorbells Moved Too
The Streamer was not a one-off on that August 31 notice. Google grouped it with Nest cameras and doorbells, which is a tell about how the company now prices the home, not only the TV. The new Google Home Speaker stayed at $99.99. The cameras did not.
NEST US LIST PRICES, AUGUST 31
| Product | Was | Now | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nest Cam (indoor, wired, 3rd gen) | $99.99 | $129.99 | $30 |
| Nest Cam (battery) | $179.99 | $199.99 | $20 |
| Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen) | $149.99 | $199.99 | $50 |
| Nest Doorbell (wired) | $179.99 | $199.99 | $20 |
| Nest Doorbell (battery) | $179.99 | $199.99 | $20 |
A household that wanted Google’s camera, doorbell, and TV box together now pays more on every one of those SKUs. The speaker is the holdout, and only for now. The Streamer’s Thread radio and home panel are how Google asked people to run that gear from the couch, so the box and the cameras are one bill even when the receipts are separate.
A $60 Google TV Box Is Still on Shelves
Watching Google TV does not require Google’s $149.99 box. Walmart’s 2026 Onn 4K Pro is a Google TV streamer listed around $60, with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 6, and Matter over Thread. It is not a clone of the Streamer. It has a gig of less RAM and a slower Ethernet port. It still plays the same apps on the same software family, and it still talks to Matter devices over Thread.
That is the second bill coming due from 2024. Google killed the cheap Chromecast and told buyers the $99.99 Streamer was the grown-up path. Licensed Google TV hardware, including Onn and the Google TV software already baked into Hisense, TCL, and Sony sets, kept the cheap path open. At $149.99, Google’s first-party box is no longer competing with a $60 stick. It is competing with the TV you already own, plus a Walmart box that does Thread.
The Streamer still has a case if you want 4GB of RAM, gigabit Ethernet, Hazel or Porcelain styling, and Google’s own home panel in one slab. That is a hub shopper’s case. It is a weak Netflix-and-YouTube case, and it got weaker the day the buy button added fifty dollars.
WHAT WE KNOW
- Google’s list price: $149.99 is live in the US on the Google Store and at Best Buy as of August 31.
- The reason given: rising component costs, on the same notice as Nest cameras and doorbells.
- The cheap Google TV path: Onn 4K Pro around $60, plus TVs that already ship with Google TV.
WHAT IS UNCONFIRMED
- Amazon and Walmart: leftover units near $99.99 were still listed on September 1; that stock can vanish without a new notice.
- The Home Speaker: still $99.99, with no promise it stays there.
- A new Streamer: Google has not announced a successor, only a new tag on the 2024 box.
Deal posts on September 1 were still sending people to Amazon for the old price. That is a weekend of clearance, not a second official price. Once those cartons are gone, the US street price follows Google’s store.
How the New Price Stacks Against Rivals
Put the new tags next to each other and the Streamer no longer looks like the value box Google sold against Apple. It matches the Roku Ultra’s new $149.99 list, sits $50 under Apple’s 64GB Apple TV 4K, and costs almost $90 more than Walmart’s Google TV box. Amazon’s 4K Max is still the cheap 4K stick, even after its own hike.
STREAMING BOX LIST PRICES AFTER THE 2026 RESET
| Device | Old list | New list | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google TV Streamer (4K) | $99.99 | $149.99 | +$50 |
| Roku Ultra | $99.99 | $149.99 | +$50 |
| Apple TV 4K (64GB) | $129 | $199 | +$70 |
| Apple TV 4K (128GB) | $149 | $249 | +$100 |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max | $59.99 | $84.99 | +$25 |
| Onn 4K Pro (2026) | $60 | $60 | unchanged |
The processor Google called 22 percent faster than the last Chromecast is the same silicon as last year. Gemini for TV is a software extra on that hardware, not a reason the plastics cost fifty dollars more. If you need Thread, Ethernet, and Google’s remote in one place, the Streamer is still that product. If you need 4K apps, the $60 Onn and a Google TV set both do the job without matching Apple’s new living-room prices.
As of September 1, some Amazon and Walmart listings still showed leftover Streamers near $99.99. That window closes when those boxes are gone, and Google’s store already closed it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Google TV Streamer Come With an HDMI Cable?
No. Google says an HDMI 2.1 cable is required and is sold separately. The box ships with the voice remote, two AAA batteries, a power adapter, and a 1.8 m USB-C power cable.
How Did the Last Chromecast Compare on Memory and Price?
The Chromecast with Google TV (4K) listed at $49.99 with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. The Streamer doubled RAM to 4GB and lifted storage to 32GB, which is the spec Google now wants $149.99 for.
Which Streamer Color Is Exclusive to the Google Store?
Hazel is a US Google Store exclusive. Porcelain is the color sold more widely through other retailers.
What Languages Does Gemini for TV Support on the Streamer?
Google says Gemini for TV was available in English and French for 2025, with more languages planned for 2026. It is a software feature on the existing box, not a new model.
