India’s iPhone 18 Pro Price Jumps Twice the US Rise

Apple set the iPhone 18 Pro at Rs 1,64,900 in India, a Rs 30,000 rise that is more than twice the US hike. The 6.9-inch iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900. Both figures went up on 9 September, when Apple also put a physical aperture in the main camera and a 2-nanometer A20 Pro chip in the frame.

In the US the same 256GB Pro is $1,199, up $100 from last year’s $1,099. India’s list moved 22.2%. America’s moved 9.1%. Pre-orders open on 12 September. Sales begin on 18 September.

India’s Pro Sticker Moves 22.2% in One Cycle

Last year’s iPhone 17 Pro opened in India at Rs 1,34,900 for 256GB. The 17 Pro Max opened at Rs 1,49,900. Each new 256GB phone now costs Rs 30,000 more. The US added $100 to both Pro slots, taking the Max from $1,199 to $1,299, an 8.3% rise against India’s 20.0% on the larger phone.

Apple will also rent the US phones at $49.95 a month for the Pro and $54.12 a month for the Max, over 24 months. That lease path is how Cupertino is presenting a four-figure floor as a monthly bill. India’s store leads with no-cost EMI instead, from Rs 26,316 a month on the base Pro after listed cashback.

THE PRO PRICE, INDIA VERSUS THE US

The launch talk in India started on that Rs 30,000 step. Camera blades and modem charts came second. EMI, trade-in credit and card cashback are how most buyers will actually close the gap, not a weaker rupee on a US invoice.

Six Laser-Cut Blades Open the Lens

Apple’s headline hardware is the 48MP Fusion Main camera, the first variable aperture on an iPhone. Six laser-cut blades sit in a new rotor and move between four stops. Automatic mode picks a setting from light and depth of field. Manual mode, in new Pro controls, lets a shooter set aperture, shutter speed and white balance, and watch a histogram.

THE FOUR APERTURE STOPS

• ƒ/1.48: Widest setting for low light; Apple says about 50% better low-light work, and faster Night mode.
• ƒ/1.8: The portrait default, the balance Apple chose between light and blur.
• ƒ/2.8: A mid stop for mixed scenes that need more of the frame sharp.
• ƒ/4.0: Narrowest setting, meant to keep a group in focus from front to back.

The Ultra Wide and Telephoto cameras are 48MP as well. Optical-quality zoom runs from 0.5x to 8x, a 16x optical-quality range, with digital zoom to 40x. The front camera is an 18MP Center Stage unit. A second camera trick is Apple Reference Image. In Reference mode the new main sensor signs every pixel it sees. Private Cloud Compute then builds an unalterable still that sits in Photos beside the working shot, like a digital negative, so a later edit can be checked against what the chip recorded.

A20 Pro Gets a Mac-Style Cooler

A20 Pro is built on a 2-nanometer process. Apple says it has 50% more memory bandwidth than A19 Pro, a 6-core CPU, and a 7-core GPU that is up to 40% faster than last year’s Pro chip. A Dual 16-core Neural Engine brings 32 cores, which Apple calls double the on-device AI throughput of A19 Pro.

INSIDE THE NEW PRO BOARD

• Packaging: The silicon die sits beside memory, a layout Apple says is borrowed from M-series Mac chips so heat is not trapped under RAM.
• Vapour chamber: Three times the surface area of the iPhone 17 Pro cooler, and Apple ties that area to up to 40% more sustained performance.
• C2 modem: Apple’s next cellular system, rated for faster uploads than C1X at 15% less energy, with mmWave in the US.
• N1 radio: Apple’s own wireless chip for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread on both sizes.

The 6.3-inch Pro weighs 211 grams. The 6.9-inch Max weighs 249 grams. Both use an aluminium unibody with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back. Peak outdoor brightness is 3,000 nits. The Dynamic Island can now show three Live Activities at once.

Battery life is the other number Apple is selling against the new list. Typical use is up to 24 hours on the Pro and 30 hours on the Max. India’s site rates Pro Max video at up to 43 hours. eSIM-only units in markets such as the US add about two hours of video, which is why those spec sheets read 36 and 45 hours. Wired charging can reach 50% in about 15 minutes with a 60W-class adapter that supports adjustable voltage.

Why India Absorbed a Steeper Hike

Tarun Pathak, research director at Counterpoint Research, put India’s iPhone increases in a 20 to 30% band against an international average of 8 to 10%. He did not treat the Pro camera as the cause.

Beyond memory-driven cost increases, this spike is fueled by a weaker rupee and higher domestic production costs.

India’s MRP already includes 18% GST on smartphones. On the Rs 1,64,900 Pro, that tax slice is Rs 25,154. Strip it out and the pre-tax India figure is still Rs 1,39,746, which sits above the US list of $1,199 before any American state tax. US stickers are quoted pre-tax; some states add nothing, others add close to 10%.

Pathak also said channel checks show some buyers pulled purchases forward before the new lists, and that a chunk of demand still looks unwilling to buy into the festive window at these tickets. Older iPhones on Apple’s India store moved up the same week, so skipping the 18 Pro is not a free freeze on last year’s price.

Memory is the shared global pressure. DRAM and NAND have been pulled into AI data-centre builds, and Apple had already lifted Mac and iPad prices in India earlier in 2026. The Pro phones now take a partial pass-through of that bill, plus the rupee, plus whatever it costs to run assembly lines in India rather than ship a finished phone. Local build did not produce a lower launch sticker.

Pre-Orders Open on 12 September

Apple’s India store will take orders from 5:30 p.m. IST on 12 September. The phones are due in customers’ hands, and in shops, on 18 September, six days later. Colours are Black, Silver, Glacier and a new Burgundy. Both sizes ship as 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB.

There is no power adapter and no pair of EarPods, in line with Apple’s 2030 carbon plan.

Software on day one is iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence. Siri AI is rolling out in English as a more personal assistant that can use on-screen context. Those features are the software half of what the A20 Pro is meant to run for years, which is how Apple usually defends a higher floor.

2TB Comes to the Smaller Pro

Last year the 2TB option stopped at Pro Max. This year the 6.3-inch Pro gets it too, at Rs 3,14,900. The Max 2TB is Rs 3,29,900. Storage steps on the smaller phone are not gentle. 512GB is Rs 1,89,900. 1TB is Rs 2,39,900. Each jump above 256GB is Rs 25,000, then Rs 50,000, then Rs 75,000.

INDIA STORAGE LIST, BOTH PRO PHONES

The Max stays Rs 15,000 above the Pro at every rung. That gap is the price of 0.6 inches of screen, a larger cell, and the 43-hour video rating. Buyers who want the new aperture, the 2nm chip and C2 can take them on the lighter 211-gram body. Buyers who want the long video number pay the Max premium and still face the same 20.0% year-on-year lift at the 256GB rung.
