Microsoft Jewel Goes Mobile After Casual Games Join King
Microsoft Jewel is on iPhone and Android with 28 Xbox achievements, while Game Pass Ultimate strips ads on phones and King takes the casual team.
Microsoft Jewel is a standalone iPhone and Android app as of September 30, 2026, with 28 achievements that write to an Xbox profile from a phone. Microsoft Casual Games called it the fifth title in its mobile lineup and the first new mobile launch in seven years.
The same login syncs a run across iOS, Android, and the PC app that shipped on May 6, 2026. Game Pass Ultimate is the plan that turns ads off on the phone, eight days after Xbox put the casual team under King.
Game Pass Ultimate Keeps Ads off Phones
Free play still carries ads. Xbox Game Pass members get Premium on the PC build, which Microsoft describes as an ad-free session plus extra in-game benefits it does not name. Only Ultimate extends that Premium bundle to the phone.
That split is the product, not a footnote. A PC Game Pass login can clear the board at a desk without ads, then pick the same save up on a commute and watch the commercials return unless the plan is Ultimate. The company is using a free match-3 to make the top tier feel useful on the one screen most people already carry.
GAME PASS ON MICROSOFT JEWEL
| Plan | Jewel on PC | Jewel on a phone |
|---|---|---|
| No Game Pass | Free, with ads | Free, with ads |
| Game Pass (not Ultimate) | Premium, ads off | Ads stay on |
| Game Pass Ultimate | Premium, ads off | Premium, ads off |
Cloud streaming is a separate meter. From November 2026, Ultimate includes a 15-hour monthly cloud cap, Premium 10 hours, and Essential 5 hours, a change Xbox said would touch 4% of subscribers. Jewel does not replace a streamed console game. It does give Ultimate something that still runs on a phone after those hours are gone, with no extra cloud bill.
Twenty-Eight Achievements Follow You Across Devices
Sign in with a Microsoft account and the set is the same on a phone as on Windows: 28 achievements worth 1,000 Gamerscore. TrueAchievements, which tracks Xbox completions, lists 9,151 players on the PC version and 58 people who have finished the full set. The tracker’s own estimate for a 1,000/1,000 run on Windows is 15 to 20 hours.
THE SET ON WINDOWS
- The total: 28 achievements add up to 1,000 Gamerscore on phone and PC.
- The grind: TrueAchievements puts a full clear at 15 to 20 hours on Windows.
- The finishers: 58 tracked players have every achievement.
- The hook: Daily Challenges feed a 30-point day badge and a 50-point week streak.
The three 100-point tasks sit at the hard end of a board that otherwise hands out 10s and 20s for early levels and simple tricks. Hunters on X had the Android and iOS builds awarding that full 1,000 Gamerscore on September 29, a day before the company note. The louder use for this app is a commute that still ticks Gamerscore, not a new puzzle genre.
THE 100-POINT TASKS
| Achievement | Gamerscore | What it asks |
|---|---|---|
| I Will Survive | 100 | Complete Level 30 |
| The Klobb | 100 | Score 1,000,000,000 in a single game |
| Don’t Stop Me Now | 100 | Finish a level, including the Challenge Board, in less than 30 seconds |
Names on the list lean on pop songs. Never Gonna Give You Up is 100,000,000 points. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a Power Jewel made from diamonds. Loser is the joke at the bottom: drop a standard game on Level 1 and the profile still moves.
King Takes the Casual Games Team
On September 22, 2026, Matt Booty, Xbox’s chief content officer, sent staff a reset note that folded Microsoft Casual Games into King, the Candy Crush studio Microsoft already owns. Jewel’s phone apps went live eight days later under the old Casual Games byline, with Tara Tegtmeyer, a senior communications specialist on that team, signing the launch post.
King will expand its remit to include Microsoft Casual Games, uniting our two global leaders in casual game design and live operations.
Matt Booty, Xbox chief content officer, September 22 staff note
The same note cut 268 roles across Halo Studios, other first-party studios, and Xbox Game Studios management, and said work since July had brought Xbox roughly three-quarters of the way through a restructuring laid out earlier in the year. Playground and Turn 10 were merged around Forza and Fable. Activision took Rare, World’s Edge, and the next Halo. Bethesda took Obsidian. None of that memo names Jewel, Solitaire, or Candy Crush as products that will change.
Microsoft already owns the biggest match-3 on phones through King. Jewel still ships with Xbox achievements and a Game Pass ads-off switch that Candy Crush does not carry. The September 22 note is a reporting line, not a design brief. Booty also pointed staff to an October 6 town hall.
What You Unlock in Microsoft Jewel
The loop is match-3. Line up three or more jewels, fill a meter, bank Bonus Jewels, then drop those gems anywhere on the board to stretch a match, fire a chain, or build a Power Jewel. Challenge Mode asks you to clear the whole board. Daily Challenges reset the goal each day, which is how the 30-point and 50-point time badges get earned.
Microsoft’s own copy on the launch post puts it in one line: match three or more jewels to clear them from the board, build a score, and make room for the next move. The PC store page and the phone listings repeat the same pitch, including Xbox achievements and the Game Pass ads-off line.
None of this needed a new studio. The board already ran on PC, inside Microsoft Solitaire Collection, and through the Xbox mobile app, including a Rewards tab that asked people to finish a Jewel level. The September 30 apps are the same puzzle with its own store listing, its own icon, and a login that writes to the same Xbox profile.
The Puzzle Already Lived Inside Other Apps
Xbox support still lists four older phone titles from the same group: Microsoft Solitaire Collection, Wordament, Mahjong by Microsoft, and Microsoft Sudoku. Jewel is the fifth. Solitaire Collection has been on iPhone and Android since November 23, 2016, and that build already signed into Xbox and handed out achievements. Jewel is new as a standalone match-3, not as the first time a Microsoft puzzle has touched a phone profile.
THE FIVE PHONE APPS
- Microsoft Solitaire Collection: Cards, daily challenges, and Xbox sign-in on phones since November 23, 2016.
- Wordament: The word grid still in the mobile catalog.
- Mahjong by Microsoft: Tile matching on iOS and Android.
- Microsoft Sudoku: Number puzzles on both phone stores.
- Microsoft Jewel: The new match-3 with the same account and the 1,000 Gamerscore set.
The PC Jewel app is free on the Xbox store under product ID 9NC9M1NCZ7SD and sits in PC Game Pass. Google Play shows the new Android package as com.microsoft.jewel, marked “Contains ads,” last updated September 8, 2026, which is why reviews thank Microsoft for pulling the board out of the Xbox app weeks before the Wire post.
HOW JEWEL GOT TO PHONES
- May 6, 2026: The standalone PC app ships with 28 achievements and a Game Pass Premium switch for ads.
- September 3, 2026: Xbox says cloud gaming hours will be capped in November at 15, 10, and 5 by plan.
- September 8, 2026: Google Play logs an update on the new Jewel package.
- September 22, 2026: Booty puts Microsoft Casual Games under King and cuts 268 roles.
- September 29, 2026: iOS and Android builds already award the full 1,000 Gamerscore.
- September 30, 2026: The company posts the mobile launch note.
That sequence is why the phone apps read as a store wrap and an account hook, not as a surprise design. The board, the daily chores, and the achievement list were already in market. What changed is the icon on the home screen and the Ultimate ads-off flag on that icon.
A Sign-In, a Live Connection, and Daily Boards
Microsoft Casual Games posted the store links itself. The Android package is on the Android store listing, and iPhone players go through the iOS download page. Play’s ratings block showed a 4.8 average from 115 reviews, with the new listing still in the 500+ download bucket, the range Google uses while a fresh package is just getting out of the gate.

Early Android notes are blunt. The game wants a live connection, so a subway tunnel ends the session. The interface still feels like a PC board dropped onto a small screen. Those are launch-week complaints, not a verdict on the match-3 itself, which people who already played it inside Solitaire or the Xbox app will recognize in a minute.
One open question from the first night of phone play is Microsoft Rewards. The Xbox mobile app still runs Jewel as a daily quest in some markets, and it is not confirmed that a clear in the standalone app counts for the same quest. Until that is spelled out, the safe path for points remains the path the quest screen names.
The download is free. The Microsoft account is the gate for sync and for the 1,000 Gamerscore. Ultimate is the gate for silence on a phone. King now holds the team that shipped all of that, with no public list of what, if anything, changes on the board next.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do You Need Game Pass to Play Microsoft Jewel?
No. The iOS, Android, and PC apps are free downloads that run with ads if you are not in Premium. Game Pass is only the switch that removes those ads on PC, and Game Pass Ultimate is the switch that removes them on a phone as well; Microsoft has not published a paid Premium price just for Jewel on mobile.
Can You Play Microsoft Jewel Offline?
Launch-week Android reviews say no, the session needs a network connection, which matches a product built around a Microsoft account, cloud saves, and achievement writes. If you need a puzzle that survives airplane mode, this build is the wrong one until Microsoft ships an offline path it has not described.
Does Progress Sync if You Switch From iPhone to Android?
Yes, as long as both installs use the same Microsoft account. The company says a run started on a phone can be opened on the standalone PC app without starting over, and the same login is what binds iOS to Android. The Xbox console app is not required for that sync.
Did Microsoft Already Put Xbox Achievements on Phone Puzzles?
Yes. Microsoft Solitaire Collection launched on iOS and Android on November 23, 2016, with Xbox sign-in and achievements, so Jewel is a new board on that old pipe rather than the first time a Casual Games title has written Gamerscore from a phone.
How Long Does a Full 1,000 Gamerscore Take?
TrueAchievements estimates 15 to 20 hours on Windows, and only 58 of 9,151 tracked players have every achievement, which is why the 100-point tasks (Level 30, a 1,000,000,000-point game, and a level plus Challenge Board in under 30 seconds) sit so far above the 10-point openers.
The apps are in the stores, the 1,000 Gamerscore already counts from a phone, and Ultimate is the plan that buys quiet on that phone. King’s new remit is on paper. The board itself has not been rewritten.
