Xbox Puts College Football 27 on a Full Free Weekend

College Football 27 is free for every Xbox account through September 6, while three other Free Play Days games get timers, Game Pass, or $4.49.

EA Sports College Football 27 is free for every Xbox account from September 3 through September 6, 2026, and Game Pass is not required.

The other three Free Play Days games do not travel on that ticket. The Survivalists is for Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and Essential members only, and both The Lonesome Guild and Under the Waves stop at a two-hour timed trial.

Four Games, Three Very Different Doors

Xbox marketing manager Kyle Ocean posted the slate on September 3 under the usual Free Play Days banner. The post puts four names in one list, then splits them the moment you read the fine print: one full weekend for every member, one full weekend behind Game Pass, and two clocks.

That split is the product. Free Play Days for All is the open lane. Standard Free Play Days still need Ultimate, Premium, or Essential. Timed trials are a third thing, and they are not a weekend with the game.

THE FOUR-GAME ACCESS SPLIT

Game Who can play Clock Keep-it price
EA Sports College Football 27 All Xbox members Full weekend Deluxe $74.99 (was $99.99)
The Survivalists Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, Essential Full weekend $4.99 (was $24.99)
The Lonesome Guild All Xbox members Two hours $24.99
Under the Waves All Xbox members Two hours $4.49 (85% off until September 6)

Store ratings on the same announcement page make the attention gap plain: College Football 27 carries 2,481 ratings, Under the Waves 198, The Survivalists 171, and The Lonesome Guild 16. EA is the title people already know. The other three are along for the store traffic.

Xbox’s own recap treats those three offers as one free weekend, and that flattening does real work. A two-hour trial is a demo with a clock. College Football 27 is the only game you can actually live in until Sunday.

College Football 27 Is Free for Every Xbox Account

Tiburon’s game had its worldwide launch on July 9, so the trial opens 56 days later, eight weeks into the cycle. Standard is $69.99. Deluxe listed at $99.99. The MVP Bundle with Madden NFL 27 Deluxe was $149.99 at reveal.

Cover athlete Dante Moore said, “As a kid I always thought about being on the cover one day…” EA put him on the art with players in Ole Miss, Miami, and Oregon kits. For a Saturday download, the modes that matter are Play Now of a team on TV, Dynasty Blueprint, Road to Glory, and Mascot Mashup.

Dynasty Blueprint is the new program layer: meet Athletic Director expectations, earn Dynasty Points, and spend them on NIL, recruiting, staff, and facilities. Road to Glory adds Tight End, Edge Rusher, and Safety, and it tracks Draft Stock and Legacy Score into Madden NFL 27 Superstar. Mascot Mashup is back with over 120 school icons in 11-on-11.

The Deluxe store page is built for Xbox Series X|S only. Local co-op is 2-4, online co-op 2-3, online multiplayer 2-6. Console online play still needs Game Pass Core or Ultimate, sold separately, so the “no membership” weekend does not cover Saturday’s online games unless that sub is already on the account. Single-player Dynasty and Road to Glory do not wait on that gate.

THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL 27 CALENDAR

  1. July 2, 2026: MVP+ members get seven-day early access.
  2. July 6, 2026: Deluxe Edition and MVP Bundle owners get three-day early access.
  3. July 9, 2026: The game launches worldwide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
  4. August 13, 2026: Madden NFL 27 launches, which is the other half of the Kickoff Bundle.
  5. September 3, 2026: Free Play Days for All opens the full game through September 6.

Deluxe includes 4,600 College Football Points on top of the base game. If the trial converts, that is the SKU Xbox is waving: 25% off, which is $25 off $99.99.

Why the Trial Hits This Saturday

The window is Thursday through Sunday on the first packed Saturday of the 2026 FBS season, after the league opened on August 29, so a free Series X copy lands in living rooms while the real games are on ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC. No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 Oregon, and No. 3 Georgia are all scheduled on September 5, with Ball State in Columbus at 12:30 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network, Boise State at Oregon at 3:30 p.m. on CBS, and Tennessee State at Georgia at 3 p.m. on SEC Network+.

Night slots keep the TV on after dinner. Clemson at No. 11 LSU is 7:30 p.m. on ABC. Western Michigan at No. 16 Michigan is 7:30 p.m. on NBC. Sunday, September 6 still has Washington State at No. 17 Washington and Wisconsin vs. No. 4 Notre Dame at Lambeau Field before the trial expires.

A holdout who skipped the July price can load a Play Now of Saturday’s actual teams, then face the Deluxe prompt before the clock hits Sunday night. EA already sold early access in July. This weekend is the mid-season sample for people who waited to see the product on television.

The Survivalists and the Game Pass Door

Team17’s island game is the only title in the four that still needs Game Pass. Ultimate, Premium, and Essential all count. Xbox One and Series X|S both run it. Up to four players can share the island online.

It launched on October 9, 2020 at $24.99, nearly six years ago, in the same universe as The Escapists. You wash up, craft, hunt, raid temples, and train monkeys to chop, build, and fight. The Xbox Wire listing now shows $4.99 beside that $24.99 tag, so members who already pay for Game Pass can play the full weekend and buy the disc-less copy for five dollars if they want it after Sunday.

That is a different deal from College Football 27. Survivalists is old catalog with a membership wall. EA’s game is new, open to every Xbox account, and priced like a flagship that still wants $74.99 to stay installed.

Two Hours With Ghost and Stan

The Lonesome Guild and Under the Waves are free for all Xbox members, then they stop. Two hours is long enough to meet a party or drop under the North Sea, and it is not long enough to finish either campaign. When the timer ends, the game locks unless you buy it. Achievements earned in that window stay if you pay.

DON’T NOD published the ARPG from Tiny Bull Studios on October 23, 2025 for $24.99, on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere on the Microsoft store. You play Ghost, a spirit with no memories, and you gather six misfits in Etere as a loneliness mist spreads. Combat lets you swap among the six on the fly. The Xbox listing still shows $24.99, with a Soundtrack Edition at $32.99. There is no weekend cut on the US page.

At its heart, The Lonesome Guild is a story about loneliness, about that silent weight we all carry at some point in our lives.

Matteo Lana, CEO, Tiny Bull Studios

Under the Waves is older and cheaper. Parallel Studio built it. It shipped on August 29, 2023 under the Spotlight label from Quantic Dream, with research help from Surfrider Foundation Europe. You play Stan, a North Sea diver in a techno-futuristic 1979, working a grief story in an underwater energy field. List is $29.99. Xbox cut it 85% to $4.49 through September 6, which is the same night the trial dies.

$4.49 is not a festival gift. It is a remainder sticker on a three-year-old story game. Two hours plus that price is a clean try-then-buy on a title that has already had deeper cuts on PC. The Lonesome Guild still wants the full $24.99 after you have met Ghost.

Deluxe Falls to $74.99 After the Weekend

Xbox’s conversion line is blunt: buy the game, keep the Gamerscore, keep playing. Discounts, percentages, and title availability vary by title and region, the post says, so the tags below are the US ones on the announcement and the live Deluxe page.

College Football 27’s Deluxe Edition listed at $74.99, saving $25.00, which is the 25% off Kyle Ocean advertised. The Kickoff Bundle with Madden NFL 27 Standard sits at $99.99. The MVP Bundle of both Deluxe editions is $119.99, down from the $149.99 reveal price. Under the Waves at $4.49 expires September 6 with the trial. Survivalists is $4.99. The Lonesome Guild is still $24.99.

Xbox’s points and DLC carry over if you buy at the end of the free period, and the weekend post adds Gamerscore and achievements to that pile. A Dynasty season started on Thursday does not vanish if Deluxe is purchased on Sunday. A two-hour Ghost run does not vanish either, but the lock is waiting at minute 121.

A few recap posts still parked College Football 27 behind Essential. Xbox did not. The open lane is the EA game. Game Pass is the door for The Survivalists. The timer is the door for the other two.

How to Start Playing on Console

On Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, open the Store, go to the Subscriptions tab, and scroll to the Free Play Days collection, then install from each game’s store page while signed in; College Football 27, The Lonesome Guild, and Under the Waves are built for Series X|S, Survivalists also runs on Xbox One, and the Lonesome Guild Play Anywhere license also covers PC. You have to be signed in to see the install option that matches your tier, and a Game Pass prompt on Survivalists is the membership wall working as designed, not a store error.

THE CONSOLE PATH

  1. Find the collection: Open the Store, select Subscriptions, and scroll to Free Play Days on Xbox One or Series X|S.
  2. Or use Xbox.com: Open each game’s details page, then jump to the Microsoft Store while signed in.
  3. Match the door: College Football 27 should offer a free install to any Xbox member; Survivalists should ask for Ultimate, Premium, or Essential; the other two should start a two-hour trial.
  4. Keep the save: Buy before the window ends if you want the discounted keep-it price, and the Gamerscore from the trial stays on the account.

The Free Play Days window runs through Sunday, September 6, 2026. Under the Waves at $4.49 ends that night with the trial, and College Football 27 leaves with it unless Deluxe or the Kickoff Bundle is already in the library.
